2017's excellent Huawei Mate 10 Pro is down to an unbeatable $400 price (new with warranty) - Phone Arena

Huawei has been making decent phones aggressively priced to challenge their direct Apple and Samsung-made rivals for many years now, but 2017's Mate 10 Pro was arguably the company's first flagship device to prove equal or superior to the competition's then latest high-enders in almost every single way.
With a 6-inch OLED screen in tow that still looks amazing, being surrounded by impressively thin bezels and no distracting notch, as well as a powerful Kirin 970 processor under the hood, 6GB RAM, and a massive 4,000 mAh battery (even by today's standards), the Huawei Mate 10 Pro was also the brand's last handset officially released through major US retailers.
While Best Buy halted its sales shortly after talks broke down with AT&T and Verizon to carry the bad boy due to pressure from the US government, Newegg stuck with the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, charging $800, then $650, $500, $450, and finally, $400 at the time of this writing. Technically, the e-tailer still sells this classic mobile powerhouse for $430 and up through its official platform, using eBay to shave off an additional 30 bucks.

You can get the blazing fast handset in a Midnight Blue or Mocha Brown color option with a valid 12-month US warranty included and no catches or strings attached. You're obviously looking at brand-new, unused devices eligible for free nationwide shipping, as well as free 30-day returns, which you can activate on your GSM network of choice, be it AT&T, T-Mobile, or a smaller prepaid operator, with no restrictions whatsoever.

Huawei's in-house Kirin 970 SoC delivers similar raw speed as the Snapdragon 835 powering the likes of Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 or the LG V30, which makes 400 bucks a very reasonable price to pay for the Mate 10 Pro today when also considering that aforementioned monster of a battery, two extremely capable Leica-enhanced rear-facing cameras, a premium water-resistant metal-and-glass build, and Android 9.0 Pie software. You may want to hurry, though, as something about this sale suggests Newegg is looking to clear leftover inventory.

Google Maps helps you choose popular dishes when checking out a restaurant - Android Police

For months now, Google Maps has asked users who upload photos of food and drinks at restaurants to tag their images with the dish name. That crowdsourced information was bound to be put to good use at some point, and according to a few tipsters, there's a new Popular dishes feature in restaurants' Menu tabs that uses these images and tags to show you the most liked dishes.

Open a restaurant, check if it has a Menu tab (some don't), and the first screen should be the one for popular dishes. Large image thumbnails are used, with the numbers of pictures and reviews for each dish below. Choose any dish and you'll get a carousel of user-submitted images, a list of all reviews that mention it by name, and an edit button to fix mistakes or report a wrong dish.

Left: Popular dishes tab. Middle: Dish page. Right: Editing options.

For restaurants that already have a detailed menu uploaded to Maps, the Menu tab will display these popular dishes first, then the text menu in the following sub-tabs. Other things worth pointing out are a floating + button to upload images of dishes straight from here, and a carousel at the bottom of dish pages to quickly jump to other dishes served at the same place without going back to main tab.

Left & Middle: Popular dishes for places with existing menus. Right: Other dishes served there.

The popular dishes feature has been showing for some users for a while, but we just came across it and noticed it hasn't rolled out to everyone just yet. Despite checking the same restaurants listed above, being on the latest Maps version (v10.15.1 on APK Mirror), and a Level 7 Local Guide, I don't see these dishes. Several other users confirmed that it's not live for them yet, so as with all things Google, your mileage may vary widely.

Google Maps now highlights photos of restaurants' most popular dishes - Engadget

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Google Maps has long since shown crowdsourced photos of the dishes at listed restaurants, but a new tab will flag up the most popular choices with photos to match.

As spotted by Taylor Wimberley on Twitter and confirmed by several other users, the update adds a new tab to the Menu page on a restaurant's Maps listing called Popular Dishes:

The new feature seems to scan reviews of the restaurant to find commonly-mentioned dish names, then adds photos included with those reviews to the Popular tab. Whether this is done automatically or humans are involved is currently unclear, but a fully automated system would presumably make mistakes whereby someone's review mentioned one dish and the photo showed another. That said, Google does have extensive image-recognition tech (as seen in Google Photos, for instance) which could be used here.

9to5Google notes that while you can suggest edits to the information shown, as with anything on Maps, several dishes don't have names because the person posting them didn't include a caption. That's not so helpful when customers spot something delicious and want to order it, but they could always show the photo to the waitstaff.

The update to Maps has only been rolled out to some phones at the time of writing, and is most likely in testing. If it works well, we'll likely see it on the main Maps app before long, bringing Google Maps one step closer to its restaurant review rivals Yelp and TripAdvisor.

Pixel 3A leaks at Best Buy, confirming 6-inch screen for XL model - The Verge

The unannounced Google Pixel 3A XL has been spotted at a Best Buy in Springfield, Ohio. Android Police reports that both the “Purple-ish” and “Just Black” models of the phone were on display, and that their packaging confirms previous rumors that the Pixel 3A XL will have a 6-inch display. No pricing appeared to be visible for the handsets.

The sighting is the latest in a string of leaks about Google’s unannounced mid-range handsets. Earlier this week the YouTube channel This is Tech Today posted images of the retail packaging of the non-XL Pixel 3A, which confirmed that it would have a 5.6-inch screen. The video also claimed that the 64GB model of the Pixel 3A and the Pixel 3A XL would start at $399 and $479 respectively.

With less than a week to go until Google is expected to announce the new phones during its Google I/O keynote on May 7th, the Pixel 3A is running out of places to leak from. We’ve seen photographs, promotional images, videos, and renders, and it’s been spotted on Geekbench as well as Google’s own site. We’re not quite at the point that the Pixel 3 got to last year, where the phone had leaked so thoroughly that someone recognised it in a Lyft, but we’re getting very close.

Google Pixel 3a XL spotted at Best Buy ahead of launch - Engadget

Google's Pixel 3a XL has been spotted at a Springfield, Ohio Best Buy, removing any remaining mystery about what the search giant is about to announce. The handset was seen in its packaging by an Android Police tipster in plain view (but under glass) in both of the previously leaked colors, "Purple-ish" and "Just Black." The sighting all but confirms the imminent launch and availability of the device, expected to happen on May 7th at Google's I/O event.

Pixel 3

We've already seen images of the Pixel 3a in its notch-free, single rear camera glory (above). We also know that the 5.6-inch Pixel 3a and 6-inch 3a XL will likely have 2,160 x 1,080 and 2,220 x 1,080 displays and Snapdragon 670 and 710 processors, respectively, along with 4GB of RAM and the same Pixel Visual Core powering the cameras on current Pixel 3 devices. Even the prices have leaked out: $399 US for the regular 3a and $479 for the XL. Though the evidence is convincing, it's still not official -- so take all this info with a grain of salt.

If this particular leak sounds familiar, Engadget's Richard Lai spotted the original Pixel 3 XL in Hong Kong, and even got to borrow and play with it for a bit. Whoever saw the Pixel 3a XL didn't go that far, but it's likely that Best Buy would have blocked any sale if they had tried to buy it. In any case, it looks like you'll be able to buy Google's mid-range devices with a pure Android experience -- and probably a great camera -- shortly after they launch next week.
